The title-question is one I’ve asked many times. What happens when the world stops turning?
What happens when the A I was hoping for turns out to be a C?
What happens when the publisher I thought would take my novel decides to pass?
… when the boy breaks my heart?
… when the friend abandons me?
… when the burden feels too heavy?
… when I haven’t smiled in days?
… when life seems more hopeless than ever?
What happens when the darkness settles and takes root?
My mom, my best friend, my superhero, my sunshine on a cloudy day, is there. She’s there with the stupidest joke that makes me laugh until my giggles turn inaudible. She’s there with the perfect tune to balance out my dead-walrus singing to our favorite song. She’s there when the world has turned its back and I’m sure it could never get any worse.
She’s always there and I couldn’t be more grateful.
My mom and I have an extremely unconventional relationship, but I’d also argue we have the best relationship ever. She’s my partner in crime and also my partner in business. She’s the mother I hope to be someday, even though she’s not perfect.
So as we jump into the month dedicated to celebrating our mothers, let’s show some love. If your mom is still around, give her a hug, make her breakfast, or just sit with her in silence. Show her you care and that all of the sleepless nights she spent worrying about you were worth it.
Show her she did a good job.
Even though she wasn’t perfect…
… show her she was perfect for you.
Have an awesome picture with your mom? Tweet it to me @positivenotenet because I want to flood social media with loving pictures of moms and daughters and sons and daughters, biological, adopted, and just children in love!
So, what happens when the world stops turning? A mother’s love puts it back into motion.
