This Holy Mystery of Jesus’ Love

There is a holy mystery surrounding Jesus' love.

Blinded by tears, a woman brushed past the men in the room, desperate to reach Jesus. Gasps filled the air. Whispers reflected the scorn on each face. Religious leaders cast their judgment through cold, hard stares.

But she pressed on.

The woman was no longer affected by their jeers of condemnation, for she had been touched by Jesus, forgiven and set free by the wonder of His great love.

I am forever grateful for Jesus' love.
I am forever grateful for Jesus’ love.

In her hands she carried an alabaster box filled with expensive perfumed oil. When her eyes met the eyes of Jesus, she held the gaze. Tears brimmed, then overflowed. She fell weeping to His feet in humble adoration — liquid love and gratitude falling and washing the dust away. She wiped his feet dry with her hair, all the while murmurs of disgust sounded around her.

But then came her offering.

The sweet aroma of praise.

The woman broke the seal on her alabaster box and began anointing Jesus’ feet with the magnificent oil. Oh! The fragrance. The cost as she poured out her love on the feet of Jesus.

Disapproval jabbed at her from the men in the room. “The waste!” they cried.

But, as CeCe Winans sings in her song The Alabaster Box, perhaps the woman’s response was, “You were not there the night Jesus found me. You did not feel what I felt when He wrapped His love around me. ”

Through Jesus' love I've been set free.
Through Jesus’ love I’ve been set free.

She had been forgiven. Set free. Restored.

She had been redeemed.

This holy mystery of Jesus’ love is for all who will partake. I am a life that has been changed. My heart overflows with gratitude to the One who loves me. Some days I can barely breathe when I think of what He has brought me through — when I think of His tenderness in the midst of suffocating pain from my broken heart.

… When I think of His sacrifice that I might live.

Oh that I would shamelessly fall at the Savior’s feet and pour out my love to Him — my gratitude and praise. Shamelessly. With full abandon.

Will you join me? Will you take a moment to remember when You first felt the wonder of His love, the power of His forgiveness, the refuge of His arms?

Amazing, isn’t He? Simply amazing.
